MyzharBot v5 – A fully 3D printed intelligent ground robot

Faire: Rome

Maker: Pizza Robotics

MyzharBot v5 represents the latest version of my autonomous robot, showing significant progress. This version boasts a fully 3D printed structure, combining aesthetics with functionality. Equipped with a formidable NVIDIA Jetson embedded PC, it harnesses the power of AI processing to extract intricate 3D details from its surroundings thanks to a state-of-the-art Stereolabs 3D camera. This data allows the robot to make decisions about its route and determine the optimal speed, ensuring maximum safety for those around it. By intelligently analyzing what kind of obstacles it "sees", MyzharBot v5 dynamically adjusts its trajectory, making it a versatile and reliable companion in different scenarios.

Connecting Humans And Robots Through Wearable Haptics

Faire: Rome

Maker: Università di Siena

In this project, the objective is to record and transmit tactile sensations to the fingertip. We developed both the sensing part and the wearable actuation part. The sensing part is in charge of sensing tactile cues applied to the finger. The actuation part is a wearable robotic thimble that squeezes the fingertip, rendering in real-time the sensation experienced on the sensing side. Actuation and sensing counterparts are placed in different locations

Bodynodes

Faire: Rome

Maker: Manuel Bottini

Bodynodes is a motion capture project made by a hobbyist for other hobbyists. Sensors can be worn and track the movement of the body. Then, the information can be used for different types of applications. The most typical application is to control a character in a virtual reality game. Bodynodes makes the game more immersive than other systems because the sensors are worn and the player interacts directly with the new world. With the use of a VR headset or a VR cardboard, the player gets a fully immersive experience in the game. The tracking information can also be used to create animations for videos or new games. Instead of going through days of animations, the animator can just track their own body and then work on the data collected using the Bodynodes sensors. In the future, we will explore controlling drones and robots, transitioning from the virtual world to controlling the real world!

Space Hunters

Faire: Rome

Maker: Eugenio Costa

To this day, children are increasingly inclined to play in the virtual world. We want to bring back the backyard games belonging to the last generation, such as treasure hunting, through a product that belongs to the virtual imagination: controllers set in space. The game consists of two controllers: one in the hands of the commander and one in the hands of the seeker. The commander will have to hide the three aliens, located in the seeker's controller, and then click the arrows on his controller, to give directions to the seeker. Once the directions are sent, they will be immediately received by the seeker, who will follow the arrows to find the aliens and collect them in his controller.

RLP 3D Printing for Everyone

Faire: Rome

Maker: Nebula

Our project is to create an affordable RLP (Rapid Liquid Printing) 3D printer. This innovative technology allows physical objects to be designed by extruding liquid material into a gel using a robot. The printer offers advantages such as production speed and the ability to create large objects without the need for structural supports. Our goal is to make this technology replicable using readily available equipment, allowing makers and schools to experiment and inspire everyone's creativity.

Infinit Sound Fx – A natural way to control sound effects.

Faire: Rome

Maker: Daniel F. Rosero

Musicians engage with their instruments through a variety of gestures. Some of these gestures serve a practical purpose, like plucking guitar strings or tapping effect pedal switches with their feet. However, others are non-utilitarian and stem from spontaneous bodily reactions to the music's interpretation—examples include jumping or expressive facial expressions. This project empowers you to leverage these instinctive, natural gestures in real-time, allowing you to use them as intuitive controls for your effects. It provides a user-friendly interface that can be tailored to suit your specific requirements.

FPV IoT Micro Tanks

Faire: Rome

Maker: Oleksandr Poliakov

Many of us still remember how, as children, we spent hours in front of the TV, playing the legendary Battle City. And what would happen if the game was being developed these days? Of course we would want to play it over the Internet and perhaps with AR glasses. But what if we went even further and brought it into the real world? Where we could drive around in a handmade arena, or in a hallway. We can fire an infrared cannon at the enemy, or at his base. Or just chase pets? And since these are IoT tanks - we can control them from the browser. Or even write javascript code to control them!

Bubo-2T

Faire: Rome

Maker: Kevin McAleer

WHAT IS BUBO-2T Bubo-2T is a robotic owl made in the Steampunk style. INSPIRATION Bubo was the name of the clockwork owl in the 1981 movie Clash of the Titans. It was animated by Ray Harryhousen. I’ve taken inspiration from other movie characters such as the Nautilus from the movie 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. I was also inspired by Tick Tock - the clockwork tin man from the movie Return to Oz. My other inspirations are creators of companion robots, such as Alex Glow and her Archie robot, Jorvon Moss, and also creators of wearable tech, such as Naomi Wu and Sophy Wong. Bubo-2T features advanced AI and machine learning and can detect hand gestures made in front of it. FEATURES 2 large eyes that open and close using 2 servers, one per eye Opening and closing mouth Each eye contains an Neopixel ring that is animated via a Raspberry Pi Pico The Pico is also connected via UART to a Raspberry Pi 4 2Gb One of the eyes also contains a Raspberry Pi Camera 3 Wide module The camera module enables the user to strike a pose, the hand gestures are detected and the camera will take a picture and tweet it to Twitter or Toot it to Mastodon (thats what the 2T or tooty means). Io creo il mio device

Faire: Rome

Maker: Energy Family Project APS (e-Nable Italia)

e-Nable Italia is a community of volunteers focused on the development, construction and free distribution of devices (the "devices", aids based on "Open Source" projects) to anyone who has limb difference problems or needs aids, the initiative is promoted and managed by the Energy Family Project APS, the Italian association of families with children with agenesis and limb amputation problems. "I create my device" is an experimental project based on the concept of "disablity led design", a new approach to the design of aids that can actively involve children/users in the creative design process of their help. This approach goes beyond the simple participation of the user, that becomes the starting point and essential contributor to the project. In contrast to the other approaches, disability-led design “seeks to speculatively respond to, amplify, or celebrate some aspect of the identity and culture of people with disabilities. The outcomes of disability-led design are characterized by a change in the way we perceive and interact with a category of object, space or system, and by a consequent change in the meaning assigned to it” (National Endowment for the Arts, 2021, p .23). Through some creative sessions activated with the children of the families of the association the children were encouraged to generate ideas for new devices that the community of volunteers would subsequently implement. The devices imagined by children are the result of their creativity and will respond to needs that are important to them. At the Maker Faire stand we would like to exhibit both some of these devices designed directly by children, but also the entire design process as the application of an approach which involves a transfer of design power from the designer to the end user, with a consequent change in conception and perception of the prosthetic object as part of the "self" system, as well as in the meaning that this assumes as a manifestation of self-determination of the disabled user.
